MATERIALS LIST
For Bargue Drawing (most items available for purchase in the studio):
- A3+ Drawing Board*
- A Bargue Drawing Print A3, free to those on the course, £5 each to others.
- 2 x HB, 2x 2B and one 2H graphite pencils of good quality
- Pencil extenders
- Sheet of A3 cartridge paper
- Putty rubber and plastic eraser
- Craft blade*
- Strip of fine sandpaper.*
- Fine knitting needle, or bamboo skewer
- 60cm ruler*
- Plumb line, using a dark thin cord, and a weight
- Sheet of Stonehenge paper, in pearl grey.
- A Mahl stick
A T-square is useful.
For Cast and Portrait Drawing in Charcoal:
- A2+ Drawing Board*
- Charcoal sticks, Nitram 2 x HB, 2x 2B and one 2H
- Sheet of Fabriano Roma Paper (preferred but at £10-12 a sheet) or Hahnemuhle Ingres (or other Ingres) in pale grey, ivory or cream (not too yellow please)
- Putty rubber
- Fine knitting needle, or bamboo skewer
- Plumb line, using a dark thin cord, and a weight
- A Mahl stick
* items are available at the studio, but if you wish to work at home you will have to get your own.
Skewers are free, pencils,pencil extenders, rubbers, blades and plumb lines are available at £1 each. Stonehenge sheets and mahl sticks are £2.00. Nitram charcoal will be £2-£3 per stick, it seems expensive but produces beautiful, controllable results and lasts longer, you can work with ordinary charcoal if you prefer.
Fabriano Roma, and Ingres papers have to be ordered in so you need to request these in advance.
